Mangrove Deforestation Analysis — Ambanja & Ambaro Bays, Madagascar

This project quantifies mangrove loss across administrative boundaries in Madagascar between 1999 and 2019 using the Murray Global Tidal Wetland Change dataset. A fully automated Python pipeline — built with ArcPy in Jupyter notebooks — handles raster conversion, spatial joins, summary statistics, and multi-ring buffer analysis to identify which communities experienced the greatest loss and whether proximity to paths explains deforestation patterns.

Mapping Dominant Tree Species Using LiDAR Structural Metrics

This project evaluates whether airborne LiDAR structural metrics can support dominant tree species classification in the Petawawa Research Forest, Ontario, as part of Ontario’s transition toward an Enhanced Forest Inventory (EFI). LiDAR-derived metrics were extracted at ground plot locations and analyzed using mutual information feature selection to identify the most informative structural variables for distinguishing White Pine, Red Pine, and Red Oak.

The analysis integrates spatial data processing, statistical feature ranking, and visualization to assess whether LiDAR-only approaches are sufficient for operational species mapping or whether additional multispectral information may be required.

Assessing Critical Transitions in Agricultural Landscapes in the Lower Fraser Valley

Master’s Capstone Project — University of British Columbia (UBC)

This study examines how agricultural landscapes in the Lower Fraser Valley changed between 2015 and 2020 by harmonizing multi-source land-cover datasets and analyzing landscape structure and land-cover transitions. The project identifies spatial patterns of agricultural change and evaluates opportunities for perennial agriculture expansion within existing agricultural systems.

Mapping Spatial Patterns of Urban Carbon Sinks in Metro Vancouver

Research Proposal — UBC GEM 500 (Landscape Ecology)

This project investigates how vegetation distribution and landscape structure influence urban carbon storage across Metro Vancouver municipalities. Using Landsat imagery, carbon biomass datasets, and landscape metrics, the study aims to identify municipalities functioning as major urban carbon sinks and assess the spatial factors influencing carbon storage.
